Work in Marmais Start of season 2010

    Hello everyone,

I know you probz get these questions allot but I'm looking for info on working the season in marmaris.
I'm 20 years old and plan to come with a friend. I will be giving up my career and house to hopefully change my life for the better. (its so boring and predictable just now) . I'm looking to do it properly, save enough money in-case i don't get a job straight away. I know a few Turkish people who can arrange an apartment for us.

The main info i need is
    - how do I apply for visa's, - what documents do i need and how much does it cost averagely? Is a working permit essential and is there anyway you can apply for this whilst being in turkey. Ive read that you need to have a job offer to apply for this but my plan is to look for work when i get there.

    - Is it worth while learning to speak Turkish?

    - How easy is it to find apartment and how much does would it ruffly cost? As i said we know some Turkish people, but only known them from holidays and don't know to what extent we can trust them. Could be the usual tourist bullshit they give us!

    - what is the best method to try and find work . Is trailing round everywhere asking for work the usual method or are there any agencies that supply work or anything similar??

I would appreciate any info anyone can supply. Any story's of past experiences and if anyone know of any job vacancies!

    Thanks

hiya........rite firstly i would say not to bother with the work visa thing as nobody i no ov as eva got one ov those to work in marmaris, the only visa ul need is your residence visa which is basically wat u pay at the airport and have to go to rhodes for every 3 months.

i personally wud rent the apartments from the internet as u can get some amazing deals on some ov the sites,i mean i got a month for 30 pound before,so thats not bad is it,but also u can look for some cheaper apartments just becareful u dont get stung,as sum can be shits for addin extras and then being funny about u having anyone to sleep over which means theyd charge u more for anybody to come and stay,so basically the more people sharing the more theyl put rent up.

i think its always a gud idea to learn turkish if your going to try and live there, just try with your basics for now and see how u get on.

job wise everytime iv gone for the season wiv the intention ov finding work its been tougher than i expected so i do recommend having sufficent back up money,if u work for a bar chances are theyl not pay if the tourism is bad which is norm in turkey, best thing to do would to go for transfer repping as guaranteed money.

hope this helps a little and good luckxxx

Thats very much for the info kelly,

Ive been looking at some repping jobs for goldtrail and h4u but interviews dont open till end of this season.
Do you know any other companies that are specific to turkey coz i know thomas cook and thomsons dont gaurentee placement in turkey.

Im really worried about the work permit thing. I get mixed comments about this. Some say defo dont go without one and others say not to bother thats its not that important.

Do you know if alot of ppl are found out?

Whats your thoughts of working there? Did you find it really hard?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to find out as much info as poss.

    Thanks again

    M xxxxxx

lol its no problem luv but its a big thing your doing and i did the exact same thing,i gave up my house and everything......i think you only live once and your younge so why the hell not, lifes too short, but its not guna be no easy ride,i dont no how much u plan on taking out with you as back up??

well i stayed with some girls and they did the repping they didnt have work visas and it wasnt a problem, although i no your not supposed to work in turkey so i dont understand how u can get a work visa there anyway???thats confused me slightly and maybe someone else can tell me more about that, other than a university placement i just dont no how u could work in turkey unless u own a business or so on,maybe some of the other girls can tell u more about the working thing,i just never had a permit and nor did my friends, goldtrail is the biggy companie you need to go for as they seem the easiest to get in on,although thomsons and other places have a head office in marmaris so u can just call in that way and apply there rather than just hoping you get put there.

i found working in marmaris very stressful but worth every minute, you dont get guaranteed money you work alot ov hours, but u meet some incredible people and have the best time,so it has its pros and cons,u certainley cant in my opinion survive off the wage there without your own money nor can u expect to live properly off just that wage, its very hit and miss but ul get great tips if you worked at a bar.

anyway dont worry bowt the questions if can help in anyway just pm me xx

I would love to give up everything in the UK and go and work and live in Marmaris, but its not as easy as just saying it!!!....I dont even know how easy it is to start your own business there, Im guessing it would be difficult!!...

When I went to Marmaris in June me and my friend took 300 ped eggs to sell <anyone know what I am talking about>?....they are for removing dead skin of your feet... they are just starting to be advertised on turkish television but have been out in the UK for ages.....we bought from a wholesaler and took them in our laugage and sold maybe 50 whilst we were there to various people, but it was difficult to sell even though our prices where rock bottom. We have since give it up so will sell the rest of what we have at a car boot LOL....but it was worth taking the chance.....

I would love to set up a little business there............maybe one day!!!!

Good luck Maxine, I hope it all works out for you!! :o)

hiya jenny yh no probs hun, like i mentioned before iv always chosen to find my accommodation via the internet as if u look all the time can drop on sum brill deals,i find that if u go there and look u can end up getting stung compared to the prices on the net,ok so majority ov sites wont let u book for more than a month but all that means is u change accom after the month and book it that way,so so long as u dont mind moving everymonth its fine....and im sure ul find it alot cheaper,i did the full season in 06 and i only spent 180.00 for the full season on accom, which i think is pretty good compared to sum ov the prices ur guna get charged, but if u dont wana move around and do it like that ur guna pay more hun im afraid,if u ask wen ur there theyl be loads ov people wanting to rent accom, but like i mentioned before they add there own little taxes when they feel like it if u no wat i mean,or either that they can get abit full on with you,i find it really hard to get a gud landlord over in turkey,if u want any help just pm chick xxx il give u sum site adds

no not at all its not a big deal, the idea is to travel light :) and ul save loads that way,and ul save all the hassle ud get if u chose to do it the other way,180.00 was from may to sept so thats pretty gud goin aint it lol,i think if ur just going over for work maybe march is a lil early, most ov the turkish workers start heading there in april it depends wat u want to do,marm will be pretty much dead then and nothing much happening also abit chilly i reks,ul meet loads ov girls over there in the same situation so dont worry,it is a big thing to do but i dont regret any ov it,u pm me all u want huni lol av fun xxx
