What a load of bullshit. The mayor needs to experience a 2 weeks holiday in marmaris n then he may realise that the main tourist attraction is the whole of that strip thats getting knocked down. What an absolute arsehole.

i am looking at these pictures with a tear in my eye , i have been going to marmaris for 15 years and the strip of bars n clubs on the front is the best place to go on a night as bar street is to expensive and kicks off to late , wat an asshole the mayor is , dont know wat he thinks this will achieve, it will only make less tourists visit and make marmaris lose its attraction for people . god im gutted ;(

This is a total disgrace, the mayor has killed Marmaris we should all boycote Marmaris if the beach front is not rebuilt and the times kept the same, if we want to go bed 1am we can stay in our own country.We pumped our money into Marmaris not the bloody Mayor its our hard earned money that keeps the tourisim going and pay the wages. this is a message to everyone, boycott the noa nergis at all costs, the reason why all the best bars in marmaris have been destroyed is because of his hotel, regardless of the pointless destruction though, please please please don not cancel your holiday to marmaris, dont punish the great people who live and work there as their not the ones to blame….ali alcan is a crook and should be removed from his status as mayor to insure a more positive future for marmaris

Just cancelled holiday to marmaris. We were going to take our granddaughter, longbeach was a very child friendly place for familys, will miss baran bar and jenny, the only way to show our anger is to vote with our feet.

For the benefit of those who are not familiar with the background I would like to point out that this is all part of the change that is taking place in Turkey. Admittedly it has been slow but when one considers how much needs to be done and remains to be done every little bit helps.
All of the demolitions involve illegal building or modifications for which no planning permission has been granted or even building on land that is not owned by the builder/bar owner. In the past it was common for owners to either ignore the need for planning permission or obtain basic permission and then proceed to ignore it building what ever they liked. For example permission for a three storey apartment block could become a five storey block such as has happened in Aktas a few kilometres down the coast from Marmaris.
These massive changes in the rule of law and order began with the new government in 2002 and are slowly resulting in the enforcement of the laws which have been on the books for a long time.
I am not absolutely sure but I think one would find that a recent law made local mayors responsible for the enforcement of many laws meaning he could be held criminally responsible if they were not enforced. I believe this law has lit a fire under a lot of backsides with the results you see.
Rumour has it that Tansas will eventually come down and be replaced with a park because it is build on land that it does not own. A shame I think but law enforcement must begin at some point even if a few eggs are broken.
The illegal modifications/construction involving the bars on the harbour front down near bar street/Netsel Marina took over four years of warnings followed by more warnings before the authorities moved in one March ensuring that action was taken. It looked like a waste land for a while but I personally think the result was worthwhile as that part of the water front looks much much better.
It will be unfortunate if a few holiday are spoilt because tourists have to find a new bar for their two week holiday but everyone should remain calm safe in the knowledge that it is for the greater good.

Can someone tell me where we can find clubs? Rnb club would be ideal. Will they be open April?
