    Retirement Age - it will affect u in 20 years time



    Retirement age here in Ireland has been raised from 65 to 68 from 2014. OMG I will be working till i die What do other Europeans think about this.

    jayzuzz - I hope Im in a position to retire way before retirement age, otherwise there wont be much time for chilling out after you finish work till the time you meet the great man!!

    I think it's terrible!! I shall have to go check scotland's law now on retirement age!! I really think it should be brought back down to 60!!

    They're trying to raise up the age in Holland too till 67..

    Did you also know that if you go live aborad i beleive you forfit entitlemen to state pensions too!
    Can anyone clarify that?

    yes findingnemo that is correct. if you are to live abroad you wont qualify for a state pension, you have to be working for so many consecutive years (cant remember how many maybe 20 or something high like that) to be putting stamps on (think thats ya national insurance stamp) to get your full state pension.

    yet if you dont work and on income support all your life you will get kept just lovely. thats just the sort of world we live in isnt it. disgraceful. my poor nana has worked since she was 15 up untill an ilness made her retire at about 55, shes 67 now and had savings and private pension and she gets taxed up to the eyeballs. its shocking, think we all better off all going on income support n benefits n not be arsed to work

    Here you can get a contributory pension if you have an average of 10 contributions per year over your working life. If you don't qualify for that you can get a non contributory pension which is means tested. Any years working in the EU will count towards a pension. On retirement one can live anywhere and still get a pension

    yip looks like I won't be retiring till 67 here in scotland going by my age!!! back to work for me then, probably be dead before I retire,,, lucky I just had 7 years out to raise my kiddies now I got alot of making up to do!!
